Finishing Up @ Neal's Yard Remedies
To focus on my busy & expanding Dunfermline practice I have decided to give up my clinic at Neal's Yard Remedies in Edinburgh from the end of April. I will be sad to leave this wonderful clinic as I have very much enjoyed my time there. Thank you to all my wonderful and loyal clients, it has be a true priviledge to work with you all. Dunfermline is only a short drive or train journey from the capital, why not combine a massage with a walk along the Fife Costal Route or a visit to the Abbey and lunch in the town? Those of you who have purchased gift vouchers for the Edinburgh clinic just get in touch and I can arrange to treat you on an adhoc basis at Neal's Yard or come to your home.

Pregnancy massage reduces prematurity, low birthweight and postnatal depression
A recent study by the Touch Research Institute in Miami has shown remarkable benefits of partner massage for pregnant mums experiencing ante-natal depression. In the study, pregnant women diagnosed with major depression were given 12 weeks of massage therapy two times per week by their partner or only standard treatment as a control group. The massage therapy group women versus the control group women not only had reduced depression by the end of the therapy period, but they also had reduced depression and stress hormone levels during the postnatal period. Their newborns were also less likely to be born prematurely and low birthweight, and they had lower stress levels and performed better on the developmental scales.
Ante-natal depression is a little known condition however it is estimated that around 10% of mums-to-be suffer which is no less than those suffering postnatally. If you feel that you may be in need of support due to depression check out this article from Netmums which provides sources of information and positive strategies to help yourself.

Steps For Stress
"A Simple Guide to Stressing Less & Enjoying More"
The Scottish Government has recently launched a new website due to increasing concerns regarding stress and it's effects on the health & wellbeing of the population. The website helps users identify if they are suffering from stress and provides simple steps to reduce it such as eating well, sleeping well, being active and taking time out to relax. It provides solutions to working with difficult problems such as relationship, money or health worries giving users the confidence to cope better. Simple relaxation exercises are provided as well as a Stress Diary and there is the chance to join an online community to share tips & relaxation ideas. In my view the website is a great addition to the self-help tools currently available and anything that helps to reduce the stigma of stress is very welcome. If you are feeling the affects of stress & anxiety it is worth checking it out. Small steps can make a big difference to your life.
